Area rugs are very popular. You probably saw many of them placed in the model homes in New Bern NC you viewed while looking for your new home. They can be used for a multitude of reasons including anchoring a room, separating spaces, muffling sound, warming up the room, changing a room’s appearance, and so much more. But what kind of area rug should you get?
There’s more to selecting an area rug than choosing one based solely on appearance. When it comes to buying an area rug, size matters! An area rug that doesn’t fit the size of the room can make the room look really bad. The room’s size and purpose of the rug should determine the size of the area rug you will buy. It’s a good rule of thumb to pair a 3′ x 5′ rug with a 5′ x 7′ room size; 5′ x 8’rug with a 7′ x 10′ room size, 8′ x 10′ rug with a 10′ x 12′ room size; 9′ x 12′ rug with an 11′ x 14′ room size and a 12′ x 15′ rug with a 14′ x 17′ room size. Additionally, shapes also matter. Square rugs look best with square rooms or with square furniture and round rugs look best with round rooms or with round furniture. Your rug should have 18 inches of floor space between the end of the rug and the walls. It’s highly recommended that either all furniture legs or are off the rug or only the front of legs of a chair or couch should sit on the rug. However, all of your furniture will look ok sitting on a round rug or a 9′ x 12′ rug.
We hope these tips will help you choose the best area rug for your space. JC Jackson would like to hear from our homes in New Bern NC residents. How did you select your area rug? Let us know by commenting on our Facebook page.
